How Blood Alcohol Content Is Calculated

BAC is estimated using the Widmark formula, which considers alcohol consumed, body weight, gender, and time elapsed since drinking started.

Formula

BAC = (Alcohol consumed in grams / (Body weight in grams × Widmark factor)) - (Elimination rate × hours)
Widmark factor: 0.68 (men), 0.55 (women)
Elimination rate: ~0.015/hour
